Blood Tests

A lot of blood tests are carried out in the GP surgery. All blood tests must be requested by a healthcare professional overseeing your care (e.g. GP/hospital doctor).

If the GP requests you to have blood tests, please make an appointment with reception for the treatment room.

PLEASE NOTE: Only blood tests or investigations that the GP feels are an emergency can be taken at the time of your GP appointment.

Blood Results

The results of most blood tests come back to the surgery reasonably quickly. They are received via the practice computer system. Most often GPs review the results and attach an appropriate brief message for the receptionist to give to the patient.

Patients are expected to telephone for the result of tests. Please allow 1 week before telephoning for results to ensure that all results are available.

ONLY PHONE BETWEEN 2:00 - 5:00 PM

Occasionally some blood results may take longer but the treatment room nurse may advise.

X-Rays

An X-ray may be requested by your GP who will provide you with a “GP X-ray request form”. Newtownards and Bangor hospitals are most convenient to Donaghadee.

  • Newtownards Hospital: The GP X-ray unit is located within the Outpatient or GP out of hours building within the Newtownards hospital site. Appointments are not necessary and the X-ray department is open Monday to Friday 09:00 – 16:30, excluding bank/public holidays.
  • Bangor Hospital: The GP X-ray unit is located within the Outpatient building. Appointments are necessary and may be arranged by contacting the hospital on 028 91 510109. The X-ray department is open Monday to Friday, excluding bank/public holidays.

X-Ray Results

The X-Ray result will be forwarded electronically to the GP practice after being reported by the Hospital Radiologist.

Please allow at least 10 days from having your X-Ray to contacting the GP surgery for the result.
